These
paintings are done directly from the landscape, either through a
window or outside, and never from photographs or memory. The spirit
of place can only enter a painting through a painter absorbed in the
natural environment. The sounds, breeze, temperature, smells
and glimpses of moving life enter the picture, either consciously
or unconsciously, along with the expressive visual record of shapes,
colours and tones as they are on that particular day. |
